La borsa da viaggio per una fotografa sempre in movimento

The travel bag for a photographer on the go

A few weeks ago, Elisabetta contacted us to tell us about her idea: she wanted a travel bag to carry the monitors she uses for work.

Since she is a photographer, she often travels and has to take her equipment with her, including some rather large and fragile screens. She had already had some monitors break due to impacts during the trip, so she decided to replace the packaging usually used with real monitor cases.

Furthermore, since Elisabetta and her partner manage a rather large group of professionals, they thought they would take advantage of the opportunity to provide a travel bag that was the same for everyone, which conveyed professionalism and elegance.

Travel Bag Requirements

Elizabeth's request raised a number of issues:

  • first of all the monitors to be transported were large and heavy, so the travel bag had to be equally large but light so as not to further burden the shoulders of the poor photographers; this led us to exclude leather, which would have been too heavy
  • the fabric had to be resistant and washable to withstand continuous use, but without sacrificing elegance
  • the travel bag should have been padded to absorb any shocks, but we had to opt for a light padding so as not to weigh it down
  • the inside of the travel bag needed a soft lining to not scratch the monitors
  • The shoulder straps had to be sturdy enough to hold the weight of the monitors and long enough to avoid difficulty in movement
  • the closure of the main case had to be secure so that the monitors could not slip out of the travel bag during transport, but at the same time easy to open: no zips or buttons to avoid unnecessary waste of time during work

The right materials for a light, resistant and elegant bag

After careful consideration, we opted for the Tempotest fabric, resistant and easily washable. The black color always appears rather elegant and the essential and clean style would have conveyed professionalism; the tag with our logo could only be in leather: a resistant and long-lasting material that exudes refinement.

For the padding, we looked for a medium-density foam, so as to ensure good shock protection without compromising the handling of the travel bag, which would remain light and easily transportable. A black satin lining would cover it completely to prevent the monitor from rubbing against a too rough surface and getting scratched.

For the shoulder straps, however, we preferred polypropylene, which would have held the weight of the monitor very well. At 48 centimeters long, they would not have risked hindering movement.

A convenient hook-and-loop closure made with two Velcro strips running from one corner of the travel bag to the other ensures that the monitors are secure during transport, but can be quickly removed when needed.

We immediately got to work to create the prototype to show Elisabetta and this time, differently from usual, we stitched it by machine to speed up the process.

From idea to prototype in record time

Frame About You also deals with luxury events, so the staff is traveling all summer from one venue to another. This meant that we had little time to finish the travel bag: at the end of May, like every year, Elisabetta was supposed to leave together with the fifteen travel bags she had ordered from us.

That's why she was relieved when she saw the prototype and put the first monitor in it: her idea had finally become reality! Happy with the result, both for the practicality of the bag and for its elegance, she gave us the green light to start production and in a few days she will be able to consider herself fully satisfied.

Why turn to a craftsman to make an accessory?

Turning to a craftsman means being able to present your idea and follow the process of creating an item so that it reflects the requirements we have in mind and responds to our needs like no industrial item could ever do. Elisabetta, for example, had a very specific need and couldn’t find a solution on the market: the travel bags she found online or in stores were too small or too heavy, or not very resistant and therefore not suitable for carrying her monitors.

If you also want a unique handmade accessory made just for you or have a specific need that only a craftsman can satisfy, do not hesitate to contact us! We also have a page dedicated to commissioned works, where you can describe what you have in mind and the budget you have available. We will be happy to dedicate the time and attention you need to make your idea come true!
